35 Stunning Lombok Photos to inspire your next adventure

For as long as remember I’ve had this internal urge to get to more remote, less known places. Places that don’t come to mind immediately when I tell my friends I’m heading there. Lombok was sort of a place like that. Certainly not as trendy as the neighbouring Bali, Lombok surprised me more than I ever thought it would do, especially thanks to the North and the hike to Rinjani’s crater rim which hand to heart is one of the coolest things I have ever done in Indonesia.

From stunning landscape views to cultural authentic experiences, Lombok is an unpolished gem you should get to sooner rather than later. Here are a few photos to inspire your adventure.

WHERE TO STAY IN LOMBOK

North Lombok is definitely adventurers’ favourite part of the island with easy access to Rinjani, Bukit Pergasingan and the Tiu Kelep and Singala Gila waterfalls and is where you’re likely to spend quite a bit of your time in Lombok. I personally stayed at and recommend the following two places.

Rinjani Lighthouse – This is the place we stayed at the night before we hiked Rinjani with Jou Trekking. The place was absolutely beautiful, with gorgeous views over Rinjani, tranquil gardens, all bamboo structures and staff so polite they even offered us a welcome drink with creamy cookies to settle us in after our trip to the island. If you want to proper rest before your Rinjani and Pergasingan treks, this is the perfect treat!

Dragonfly Senaru Lodge – This is a budget but still value option with rooms overlooking the mountains and Singala Gila waterfall. The rooms are basic but the gorgeous porch with comfy seats makes up for the lack of AC and somewhat cold-ish shower. It’s definitely a great option (with breakfast included), if you’re not looking to spend more than IDR 200k a night.

In South Lombok, you’re most likely gonna stay in Kuta as the surfing and adventure capital of the South. I stayed in Kuta only a couple of days and since what I wanted was to explore the town and see what’s actually around, I opted for a very good value budget homestay right in the centre of Kuta Lombok.

Imelda Homestay (Kuta, South Lombok) – this place was excellent for what I needed. It was well priced, right at the centre, the guys running it were super friendly and it even came with a decent breakfast and a little porch to have a read on before calling it a day. The area where they serve breakfast is the perfect spot to find fellow travellers or just to have a nice chat either before or after your daily adventures. This place definitely is value for money and is perfect especially for a short few days stay.
